Watercolors after a sketch with pencil on watercolor paper.

6"x9"

I had no idea where to start, so I just began sketching a couple of lines. I then realized that the drops of ink almost resembled meteors. Using watercolors, I made designs around them. I made the artwork look as destructive as possible, and I put it against a plain black background to make everything seem alone and helpless.

When I looked at the drop of ink on the paper given to me, I saw movement in it. Meteors came to mind, so I started sketching that and just saw where it took me. I designed angry balls of destruction consumed in billowing fire. That didn’t seem complete, however, so I made a habitable planet for them to eventually crash into. This gave it the sense of helplessness that I felt really tied the piece together.
