To program the cutting path for the waterjet, a DXF file of the 2D profile you want to to cut is required. These can be generated from your existing 3D CAD, and should be saved to a USB thumb drive.
Exporting DXF Files:
From SOLIDWORKS
From Fusion 360
It is important to note that DXFs are imported by the ProtoMax as "unitless" files. Your CAD program must be set to inches during the export or your parts will be scaled up or down during the programming process.
The ProtoMax Waterjet can hold sheets that are up to 12 inches in length/width and can cut up to 1/2 inch Aluminum and 0.375 inch steel plates.
If you are unable to purchase sheets pre-cut to that size for your project please consult the technologists to see if we have the equipment to cut your specific material before you purchase it. Please email metech@rowan.edu for help choosing raw materials.
