Though the initial prototypes for all payload subsystems used Arduino for logic (due to familiarity and ease of use), a major goal of this project was to learn PCB design and fabrication. Using PCBs over Arduinos in the final design posed multiple advantages, such as reduced form factor, greater processing power, and cleaner wire management.Â
In this project, two PCBs were made. One that is mounted on the rover and handles all electro-mechanical operations that happen on the rover, and a second that is housed within the structure itself, and serves a similar purpose. The following pages show the schematics, PCB layout, and fabrication of both boards.
