I asked the students and teachers whether or not they knew what depression is and 85.8% answered yes but when looking at what do you think depression is only 70% gave a good answer and had a clear understanding of what depression was. Here are a few really good answers.

Feeling down when something upsetting or stressful happens, like a relationship break-up, or losing a job, is pretty normal, and usually the feelings fade over time and you get on with life. But if it’s depression the feelings don’t go away, even when things improve. -Anonymous

Depression is when you've been unhappy for awhile that you could suffer from having anxiety which leads to having phobias such as Atelophobia, Anthropophobia or more. Depression could become the cause of bad decisions too, in which include self harm or worst, suicide. -Anonymous

Depression, you can suffer from sadness, maybe self hate or feelings of isolation, for the most part is hard to explain depression cause most people have different ways to show is, some hide and others show it by posting things that shouldn't be posted. -Anonymous

Depressions can mean different things to different people. It’s more than just feeling sad, it’s like something that makes you focus on pessimistic things about yourself and how you view yourself. To me, it’s an accumulation of negative feelings and thoughts. -Anonymous

Depression is when you start feeling very sad, you lose interest in things that you usually enjoyed before. You feel unwanted and think that they are better off without you. -Anonymous

Depression is when you feel like your not good enough and when you feel really unhappy. -Anonymous

When you feel so much sadness that you cannot understand how your attitude is affecting people around you. It affects how you look, how you behave as though life has been sucked out of you. Some people need medication to help the feel less sad about everything. -Anonymous
