Pitzer Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault is a student led organization that provides peer-to-peer confidential support to survivors of sexual assault and their allies. We are committed to being trauma informed through an intersectional lens. We aim to continuously learn with the Pitzer community about the many intersections of trauma, identity, and lived-experience. For more information about support hours, you can visit the "Support Hour Schedule" page listed in the main menu.
We are here to be a support system and someone to talk to, to help find the right resources for each individual, and we also provide support for those going through Title IX reporting processes. Our primary goal is to support survivors. We also strive to create a campus climate that combats rape culture in a variety of contexts, including, but not limited to, classrooms, campus nightlife, extra-curricular communities, institutionally, and within interpersonal relationships. While most students in their jobs at Pitzer are considered mandated reporters, Advocates are just the opposite. All Pitzer Advocates are confidential, meaning what you tell us will stay completely private.
Mission Statement
Pitzer Advocates is an independent, non-hierarchical, student-led organization that provides survivor-centric and trauma-informed confidential care. We recognize that people within marginalized communities are impacted by sexual violence at disproportionate rates. As Advocates, we acknowledge our inherent position as we operate within these oppressive systems, which is why we are dedicated to combating rape culture.
We acknowledge that rape culture is constantly perpetuated and reproduced by historical and contemporary systems of oppression, including but not limited to: race, colonialism, gender, sexuality, ability, class, and citizenship. Sexual violence and these systems do not exist separately; they are interconnected. This is why we are dedicated to empowering all survivors, especially those with marginalized identities.
Through critical awareness of the intersections of trauma, identity, and lived experiences, we center an intersectional ethos as we seek to challenge existing social structures.
*Pitzer Advocates is not affiliated with any Pitzer College offices and works independently, without a staff or faculty advisor.
