Code of Conduct
The coaching staff and school administration expect our athletes to adhere to specific guidelines, such as:
Appearance/Uniforms
Student athletes will take pride in their dress and appearance. Uniforms are to be worn for approved events only. Student athletes are responsible to turn in uniforms upon request and at the conclusion of the season. The student athlete is responsible for any items lost or stolen. If you fail to turn in your uniform when requested you will be charged.
According to KSHSAA rules athletes cannot wear jewelry, glitter or body paint on their face, hair, uniform, or body during a match. The same expectations will be help for practice as well.
Good Eating Habits and Regular Sleep
A student athlete is expected to eat 3 balanced meals everyday. Drink plenty of water and milk. Avoid greasy food and soda, especially on game days. A healthy lunch is important for a student athlete due to demanding workouts at practice and matches.
Student athletes need to get the proper amount of sleep, at least 8 hours a night.
Attendance
Everyone is expected to be at practice everyday. If there is a conflict please be sure to notify your coach well in advance. If an emergency arises please contact your coach ASAP. All unexcused absences from practices/matches will have consequences at the coach’s discretion (i.e. extra conditioning/sitting out of matches). Be committed to your team!
Being on time to practice is essential. Unexcused tardies to practice will result in extra conditioning. Occasionally a student will be asked to miss the first part of practice to get academic help. If a student athlete is struggling academically the coach, teacher, student, and parent should be involved in a plan of action to help them succeed. If an after school study session is deemed necessary, the tardy will be excused.
All student athletes need to be in school. According to KSHSAA rules student athletes must be in school by 4th hour on a competition day in order to compete. If a student is absent from school, they should not be at practice or matches. School sponsored field trips do not count as an absence.
All absences and tardies should be discussed by player and coach before hand
Playing Time
The 7th and 8th grade matches are divided into A and B matches. The A match is played first with the B match immediately following. Coaches will be responsible for determining playing time in each match. All members of the team will be expected to attend and dress out for all games. Appropriate bench behavior will be a priority for all student athletes.
Academic Eligibility
According to KSHSAA rules all student athletes will need to have passed 5 of 7 classes the previous semester in order to be eligible to participate in a sport.
Within the season if a student athlete is reported to be failing one class they will not be allowed to participate in matches until they are receiving a passing grade. Students in this situation are expected to participate in practice everyday unless an academic support plan has been discussed. Student athletes that are failing do not travel to away matches, but are expected to sit on the bench with the team that is playing at home.
Locker Room Expectations
We will provide lockers and locks for all athletes, please lock everything in your locker. Back packs and other belongings need to remain in the hallway during practice time. Get dressed as quickly as possible and get out to the gym so we can start practice. There are no phones, Surface Go's, candy, gum, food or drinks allowed in the locker room before, during or after school.
Traveling
It is mandatory for all players to ride the bus to the away games as a team. The team bus will also bring players back to ST at the conclusion of the A and B matches. If a player’s parent is present at the game, they may take only their student home with them at the conclusion of both A and B matches.
Substance Abuse Policy
Student athletes are expected to follow to Olathe School District substance abuse policy: Students participating in athletics and/or KSHSAA activities will not use or possess tobacco, alcohol/illegal drugs or substances that are harmful or dangerous to a student’s health. Refer to the district policy for the guidelines and consequences.
Social Media
We are a team and need to show support to each and every one of our team members. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Consequences will be given to any player that uses social media to tear down or show disrespect to other team members, coaches, referees or schools.
