Pioneer Trail has been my home for more than 30 years; 17 of those have been as the library media specialist. I love my job! It gives me the opportunity to work with students and help them find just the right book or learn how to create the best project or paper they can. I also enjoy teaching research skills and then seeing students take the knowledge learned and form it into a product they can be proud to submit for a grade.
I love having students in the library working together, reading, or finishing an assignment. So come early and often, our doors are always open to you.
When I am not at school, I spend my time gardening, reading, being with friends and lounging in my pool. I also love to travel when I can. I really want to visit Greece on my next big vacation.
I graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in secondary education and earned my Master’s degree at Pittsburg State University in Library Media and Building Administration.
I have three children and two grandchildren, and I enjoy being with all of them especially during the summer when they come over to swim.

ROBERTA ROELFS - LIBRARY CLERK
Before starting at Pioneer Trail, I spent nine years as the library clerk at Countryside Elementary. I took a brief detour as a legal assistant in an intellectual property law firm, but I learned books really are my passion. So I’m thrilled to be back in the library here at Pioneer Trail. I love talking about books and just getting to know you. Come to the library and say, “Hi!”
In addition to working with staff and students in the library, I’m also a writer. I’ve written a magazine story and reading assessment passages. I’ve also published a picture book called Ana and the Sea Star. My next goal is to finish a novel.
My husband and I have one daughter who attends Wichita State University. Our four cats and one corgi-on-wheels keep us from feeling like empty nesters, however. Sasha, Gracie, Juneau, Miran, and Duncan entertain us and never let us forget when it’s dinner time. When I’m not in the library, I enjoy spending time in the garden, riding my bike, sewing, and quilting. I also volunteer at Great Plains SPCA where I socialize the cats and help them find their “fur-ever” homes.
