This was a very open-ended project where we had to choose a previous project from this year and redo it to make it better. My group chose to improve the Solve a World Problem project by using the engineering design cycle to come up with a practical solution for fishing gear pollution in the ocean, rather than the campaign solution from the previous project.
Engineering Design Cycle:
Identify the need
Research the problem
Develop possible solutions
Select most promising solution
Construct a prototype
Test and evaluate
Revise and redesign
Overall, this project was very open ended, and we were given a lot of freedom to choose how to complete the work.
Some things my group were successful at were collaboration and conscientious learning. Our group members worked well together and were able to stay relatively on task and work on the project successfully.
However, some areas that could have been improved are communication and time management. When first deciding on the problem/topic for our project, we were not excellent at communicating ideas and listening to each other. Although we stayed on task majority of the time, we still could have managed out time better and created a higher quality presentation.
