Power San Marin

Evidence of Work

Our task

This project was almost fully self driven, requiring us to learn how electromagnets are made and how any of the components can be manipulated to change the power of the electromagnet. Each group chose a component to test and did multiple experiments to see how it changed the outcome.

Content

Circuit

A circuit is a complete loop of conductive material from one side of a power source (+) to the other (-).

Series Circuit

It is specifically a series circuit when multiple components one after the other on the same "path" of a circuit.

Parallel Circuit

It is specifically a series circuit when components on multiple paths with the current able to go through either one.

Power

Power is the rate at which electrical energy is transferred and is represented with the variable "P".

Voltage

Voltage is the potential energy difference across a component "drop". The unit used to measure it is volts, which is represented with the variable "V".

Current

Current is the flow of charge or electricity through the circuit. The unit used to measure it is amps, and is represented with the variable "i".

Resistance

Resistance is the amount current is slowed or resisted due to an obstacle/component. The unit used to measure it is ohms, and is represented with the variable "r".

V=ir

This is the equation that can be manipulated to find voltage, current, or resistance.

Reflection

I wasn't here for most of this project, but the few days I was I felt like I had really good time management. I kept on task for the vast majority or the time and got lots of work done in the time given. I also feel like I had good critical thinking, especially when we made our wind turbine design. I used the information we got and developed it to make new designs that worked better!

Something I need to work on is my collaboration and communication skills. It has a little bit to do with the fact that I wasn't there for a lot of the project but even when I was, I could've done better. For example, during the how a motor works part of it, my team didn't really work together and didn't spread the work evenly. Instead we all worked alone and didn't really share our ideas with each other. In future groups I will make sure that we spread the work evenly among each member of the group, and have better communication throughout all our work time.
