Physics of Sports Video

The Process:

We had a pretty simple process for our video. we started with a storyboard of what we wanted the layout and the contents to be. We laid out our thoughts on Post-it notes and started from there. We decided to do volleyball as our sport and hitting as our move. We split up the work and got started with collecting all our material like video clips, a script, calculations, etc.

We started by filming clips of Brianna N hitting and the footwork that was used. After that, we started piecing together the clips that we had and added game highlights of hers. Maddie C filmed more shots as we went and as needed. Meanwhile, Maddie W was working on our script and started the voiceovers. I continued to piece together and edit all the clips as we had them sorted in the planning.

After we were done filming we all took turns recording our voice-over and finalized the calculations. we worked on the last bits and pieces as necessary. things like filling in missing clips or voiceovers. I finalized the editing at home so we could have the video ready for the next day of work. Finally, I made sure we were all happy with the final product and submitted it.

Reflection:

I feel that our group really succeeded in collaboration. we were all willing to do our part and make everything work. As well as that I feel that our critical thinking was used very well in this project. we solved the problems that came up and found the most viable solution. I feel we struggled with communication. we had to go back and film more clips because we didn't communicate about what we needed and had. so a few clips went unused. When being a critical thinker I feel that I struggled a bit in this project. I kept running into walls and not knowing how to overcome them. I eventually did but less time could have been wasted if I had been a little more observant.

-Force of Impact: We can see the impact force when she hits the ball and when the ball hits the floor this is because the force of her palm slamming into the ball pushes the ball sideways because it is stronger than the gravity pulling the ball down on a straight path to the ground after it is thrown up.

- Horizontal Velocity: The horizontal velocity is present when the ball is hit HORIZONTALLY by the hitter

- Vertical Velocity: The vertical velocity can be seen when the hitter is jumping up to the ball and when the ball is thrown VERTICALLY up for the hit.

- Total Velocity: The total velocity can be seen throughout the whole shot

- Conservation of Momentum: The momentum can be seen through the whole thing but especially when the momentum of the hitter's hand transfers to the momentum of the falling ball.
