Outdoor Furniture Design

What is the Outdoor Furniture Design Project? The outdoor furniture design project is a project where your group comes up with some sort of creative piece of furniture with an online model and/or a cardboard model. Then Some will be voted on to be built.

Sun Angles - We used sun angles in our project when figuring out where we wanted to place our bench. We don't want to have glare in students'eyes when working.

Modeling - In our project, we made an online blueprint on a website called Tinkercad. As we built our cardboard model, it was very easy to make any adjustments we needed to our online model. We made sure our cardboard model has all of the right pieces needed.

Blueprinting - In our project, we used rough draft blueprint to figure out what our bench was going to look like and how it would be durable. Once we finished we made more accurate blueprints which matched our exact model to scale.

Material Choice - We chose pressure treated for the bottom to make it durable but we used redwood to make sure it's comfortable for people to sit and do work or relax.

Human Use Patterns - We explored where we think the bench would be most accessed and noticed and we came to the conclusion that we would place the bench right outside the library. This would be a good spot because people walk in and out of the library all the time and people see it during break and passing periods.

Budgeting and Materials List - We definitely don't have the cheapest bench since our total comes out to $325.90. We used pressure treated wood which isn't too expensive but it will hold for a while. Then we used S4S Redwood Lumber which is a bit more expensive.

Reflection:

2 of the 6 "C's" that I think our group performed well in were collaboration and critical thinking. I say collaboration because everyone did their part in completing something. Whether it was a online 3D model, the cardboard model, blueprints, or finding the materials. Everyone had a role and once they finished, they helped others who weren't finished. Second, I say critical thinking because as we were creating the online model, we realized it may not realistically the most durable. So we thought it through and added more support so that it could be more realistic.

Now 2 of the 6 "C's" that we didn't perform as well as we could've in was character and communication. I say character because I feel like there were some people who didn't listen as well so it was hard to rely on them to get what needed to be done, done. Lastly, I say communication because even though everything ended up just fine, we didn't plan who was going to do what ahead of time which would've just made everything so much more simple.
