Early Life

Shu I Chou was the 3rd child born in Indonesia on March 5, 1943 into a family of what would soon become a family of 8 children. Soon after Shu I’s birth, her family immigrated to Taiwan where her parents struggled financially to support their 8 children. As a result, Shu I never got an education past 7th grade as they had to pay for education. Shu I worked many hours to support her family and siblings. Shu I was always known as the rebellious daughter as she loved to climb trees and sneak out to hang out with her friends. 

When Shu I reached adulthood, She met Joe Chou through mutal friends. Soon after, she got married to Joe in 1963. Shu I and Joe had their first kid, Tommy Chou, very soon after getting married in Taiwan, and then 2 years later their daughter, Anne Chou, was also born in Taiwan. They raised their 2 kids together in Taiwan for a couple years until Joe Chou decided to immigrate to the United States for the betterment of his family.
