Childhood

Timeline

September 10, 1967

Piers was born near the city of Lincoln, UK. He lived in the area with his mother Judith for the first five years of his life, before moving in the early 1970s.

Early 1973

Piers's father found a new job as a newspaper assistant editor in the city of Swansea, Wales, so Piers and Judith moved to Pontardawe, a town in South Wales, to be close to him.

Summer of 1978

Piers moved to Llandeilo, a smaller town north of Pontardawe. Llandeilo had a much better school system, and Piers's younger sister Rebecca had been born, so a move farther away from Swansea to a larger house made sense.

Summer of 1983

Piers moved back to England because his father got his first editor job with the Gloucestershire Echo. Living in the village of Windrush, he attended Westwoods' Grammar School in Northleach. He continued attending the school despite moving again to the nearby town of Cheltenham in 1985.

Autumn of 1986

Piers attended Brighton Polytechnic on the south coast of England, where he studied hospitality and hotel management. He graduated in 1989. As part of his course, he was required to participate in a six-month work experience, and decided to study abroad, landing a job in Boston in mid-1988.
