Samuel Kalis was born in Lviv, Ukraine in 1908, where he endured the hardships of post World War I economic downturn as well as anti-Semitism. To escape these difficulties, he and his family immigrated to Boston, MA in 1920, where he earned an education and made a successful living. His story reflects the experiences of many other Jews who had to flee from poverty and European persecution.
Samuel lived in Lviv, Ukraine from 1908 to 1920 and then immigrated to Boston, MA where he lived for the remainder of his life before dying in 1964 from a heart attack.
