The Needham High School Rockets have had their fair share of wins this year, as many of our division one teams have traveled to the semifinals and state finals for their respective sports. No win this year, however, can compare to our most recent title. Needham High School’s bathrooms have been awarded the title of “top high school bathrooms on the east coast.” They will be competing at nationals later this month, with the hopes of winning a national title.
The restrooms at Needham High School are somewhat of an immersive experience. For one, the ongoing tallies inside of bathroom stalls allow for student collaboration that stretches beyond the classroom. There is one particularly inappropriate survey on the wall of the 200s girls bathroom (if you know, you know), and additional columns are frequently added to refresh the experience. Though the administration warns against defacing school property, this particular survey has been running for over a year, and there is certainly no end in sight.
The bathroom-going experience, now limited to a brief 10 minutes per class, is not wasted on our student body. In fact, students enjoy the restrooms so much that one student remarks, “I’ve even seen four or five girls in a stall at once!” It is clear that we simply can’t get enough of our beloved restrooms, especially their welcoming aroma.
One of our editorial staff’s favorite aspects of the bathrooms is their element of surprise. “It’s like a treasure hunt,” says one avid bathroom user, “I never know if a usually-clean toilet will be flushed or not.”
The Needham High School bathrooms have created a safe haven for students to skip class, catch up with friends, add to the ongoing stall-art collection, and take part in a variety of other fun activities. Whether it’s the surveys or rank surprises, these bathrooms have become a true representation of the Needham High School experience, and Rockets are sure to look back on them fondly.
