Fall Sports Update

The fall sports season for Needham High School is well underway, and the Rockets have been blasting off with some fantastic games.

The boys golf team officially qualified for the postseason after wins over Walpole and Newton North, putting them at 5-2 on the season as of September 30th. They participated in the BSC championship on October 8th, and hope to keep their winning record as the season continues.


The boys soccer team is 8-0-4 on the season, and officially clinched their spot in the playoffs last Thursday with a win over Natick. With the 3-0 win, the Rockets broke their streak of scoreless games and ended the week on a high note.


As of October 14th, the girls soccer team was at 7-3-1 on the season and were ranked 13th in the state by the MIAA. Their last game was a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Natick, but they have beaten fellow BSC teams including Weymouth and Newton North. Yesterday, they beat Wellesley 4-2 in a close home game.


The girls volleyball team has also clinched a playoffs spot after a sweep of Natick last Thursday, putting them at 10-1 for the season. The Rockets had an early loss against Concord-Carlisle, their first in three seasons, but hope to defend their State Championship title following their 21-0 season in 2019.


The cross country team recently participated at their annual Battle of the Border meet in New Hampshire, and have faced off against Brookline, Alvirne, and others this season.


The Needham football team held their senior night this past Friday, where they fell short 17-14 in a gritty match against Braintree. The highlight of their season was an emphatic 24-7 win over Newton North.


The field hockey team was ranked 21st in the state by the MIAA as of October 6th, with wins over Milton and Newton North. They held #1 ranked Andover to 1 goal this past Sunday, and have fought hard against teams like Braintree and Wellesley during the season.


As of September 29th, the girl’s swim and dive team was at 4-0, and recently had a meet against Milton. Their season is highlighted so far with a 96-88 win over Brookline, a talented conference opponent.


The unified basketball team kicked off their season this past week with a close 38-36 win over Natick. Great play on both sides to make it a competitive and exciting game for the Rockets! Below is the tipoff from the game.
