Best Purchases for Surviving Winter in a Pandemic
Published: November 1st, 2020
As the temperature drops, it seems that Covid cases are only rising, with many surrounding communities seeing a startling increase in infection rates, thus threatening the hybrid experience for us all. Although the science surrounding Covid is constantly evolving, one idea that has stayed consistent throughout the pandemic is that being outside significantly mitigates the spread, meaning that staying outside is one of the easiest ways to keep school open. While many students have already succumbed to the cold and ventured inside, for those of you looking for ways to stay safe outside, here are five of the best purchases that will make facing the cold a little more bearable.
Although it’s certainly a little pricey, propane heaters are one hundred percent worth it. Unlike direct sources of heat like fire pits or space heaters, these propane-powered giants actually make it feel like you're sitting in a warm room.
If you are looking to warm up in true caveman-esque style, get a fire pit! There are a lot of inexpensive options available on Amazon and at Harvey’s, and they are a great way to stay warm easily.
Although it may have failed on Shark Tank, the Comfy certainly has an A in my book. While it’s not the height of fashion, it honestly keeps you warmer than any jacket ever could and it’s sized quite generously, allowing it to fit well over layers. As an added plus, it comes in a variety of colors and styles and it’s basically a wearable blanket--what’s not to like?
For those of you who get really cold hands, I would invest in a pair of these. They are rechargeable, last for up to 8 hours, and are advertised for players of extreme winter sports, so they can handle pretty much anything.
Okay, while a projector isn’t going to keep you warm, it certainly will make being outside a much more enjoyable experience, considering that all you need is an extra sheet to transform your backyard into a movie theater. Although there are certainly less expensive options available, the one pictured above allows you to connect your phone so you can access streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu, which is pretty convenient.
