After meeting with the Jewish immigration agent, they were able to stay at a family friend's 1 bedroom apartment which would end up "barely fitting 6 people altogether, luckily [they] only stayed for 10 days before finding a place in Brookline" Julia explained.
Julia would resume her High School education in Brookline, starting in 10th grade. This time in her life was instrumental because she was able to take extra English classes and learn the language proficiently before college. "Not being able to speak my mind was a large struggle for me after moving countries" Julia said, reflecting back on her High School days.
After graduating High School in 1998, she would move to Medford, Massachusetts with her parents while attending Umass Boston as a Nursing major. She wanted to do something in medicine because her grandmother, who was a doctor in Ukraine, was not able to freely practice medicine due to anti semitism. During this time, she would work a few different part time jobs to pay for her schooling such as a grocery store clerk, interning at her fathers job, and other part time jobs.
Towards the end of college, she met a man named Len Khudisman. They would end up getting married a year later on June 2nd, 2004. Initially, they began with a civil ceremony at a courthouse because Julia needed medical insurance to complete her Nursing Degree. Following the civil ceremony, they had their wedding on August 8th, 2004. This wedding was important for everyone involved because they were able to have a Jewish ceremony in the Temple, married by a Rabbi. This was important because they moved to be able to express Jewish traditions openly. Soon after, she would move in with him in Danvers, Massachusetts while finishing her last year of college.
After getting married, she would graduate with a Nursing Degree in 2004. Using her degree she would begin her professional career at a rehab job in Salem at the Salem Hospital, where she would end up moving in to her first town house with her husband. The rehab job was a great experience for her and she would continue working in the nursing field ever since. Specifically, she would go on to work at a Visiting Nursing Agency beginning in 2012 up until the current day. In 2011, she would move to Needham, Massachusetts with her family which is where she lives today.
