Parents looking to enroll their child in the KMA.
First and foremost the Kenosha Military Academy is NOT a boot camp for correcting behavioral issues. There is no obligation to join any branch of the military. The JROTC does not recruit for the US Army or any military branch.
The Kenosha Military Academy is a Leadership Academy, following its mission to make better citizens and develop leaders for the next generation regardless of career choice. During the first two years, your cadet will be learning leadership skills and then be able to apply those skills the last two years when they become part of the senior leadership. Each week during uniform inspection your student will be graded on their uniform appearance. They will also have the chance to show physical fitness abilities during cadet physical fitness challenges twice per year. Where your student starts with physical fitness is not as important as improvement from one challenge to the next.
Promotion boards occur once per year. If your student chooses to appear before a promotion board, they will be judged on their uniform appearance, academic performance, and leadership abilities by willingly participating in their Leadership (LET) classes. They will also have many opportunities to develop their leadership abilities by attending one or more of the teams after school. These teams include Raiders, Archery, Air Rifle, Color Guard, Drill Team, Robotics, and JROTC Leadership Academic Bowl (JLAB).
Please read the other tabs for more information on the teams listed above. Practices are Mondays-Thursdays after school generally until 4 pm unless otherwise announced.
If your student is in the Indian Trail High School District then enrollment is simple. If your student falls outside of the Indian Trail High School and Academy district then you will need to apply for open enrollment through the Wisconsin Dept of Public Instruction. See the following information and links for the application.
It is highly recommended that you review a sample of the open enrollment form. Follow this link to review the sample:
Open enrollment usually begins the first week of February every year and ends around the end of April. It is a lottery-type system. Follow this link to apply for Open Enrollment:
https://sms.dpi.wi.gov/OEParent
Please note while making an application that parents apply for their student to attend "Indian Trail High School" within the Kenosha Unified School District rather than "Kenosha Military Academy." The KMA is an academy within Indian Trail HS. Parents should place "Kenosha Military Academy" in the space listed "other/special programs" that follow your school of choice.
The Wisconsin Dept of Public Instruction usually makes its notifications of acceptance or denial around June. If your student is accepted then there is no longer a need to apply for open enrollment every school year. Find further information about open enrollment here at the KUSD website: https://www.kusd.edu/registration/open-enrollment/
Finally, parents will need to complete course registration at the Kenosha Military Academy :
Print and complete the form. Send it to
Indian Trail High School
6800 60th St. Kenosha, WI 53144.
If you have additional questions about the open enrollment process and registration to the KMA, please contact the High School office at 262-359-8700 and ask for the Guidance Department.
