Welcome to Pleasant Prairie Elementary! My name is Emily Steenrod and this is my tenth year teaching here at Pleasant Prairie. I am so happy to be your child's teacher this year! I will be out on maternity leave from the start of the school year through mid-November. I look forward to returning to a wonderful group of first graders!
First grade is such an exciting year filled with learning, creativity and fun! I graduated from Carthage College with degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. I also have my Master's degree within Education in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a reading teacher license.
I believe in the importance of creating a safe, positive and compassionate classroom environment in which your child can thrive. It is my goal for students to feel inspired, empowered and respected. I believe the key to a successful school year is communication. Through weekly updates and emails, I will keep you informed about homework, curriculum and other classroom activities to ensure a terrific school year!
I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois and now reside in Kenosha. I have two brothers, Sam and Jack. Education is highly valued in my family. My mother is a school secretary in the Chicago area and my brother, Sam, is an eighth grade teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my husband, Danny, our daughter, Paige, and our dog, Chip!
