This page is devoted to telling you guys about cool stuff related to academia and/or personal life of Physicists. If you guys find something which is worth mentioning or if I have said something incorrect, please do tell me and I would correct my mistake.
Some text to read on Noether:
- Emmy Noether: The Mother of Modern Algebra
The woman here is Emmy Noether, a physicist and mathematician. One of the pioneering works by her was to show the relation between symmetries and conservation laws in Physics. Noether's work is prevalent throughout physics today.
Cool Facts :
- She referred to her own Ph.D. thesis as “crap,” or “Mist” in her native German. However, Noether recognized that she had changed mathematics: “My methods are really methods of working and thinking; this is why they have crept in everywhere anonymously,” she wrote to a colleague in 1931.
- Noether would never use lesson plans for her classes, but instead treated them as a time for spontaneous discussion to work out difficult mathematical problems. These discussions were so groundbreaking and thought provoking that the class notes from some of her students formed the basis for textbooks.

"Ah! I knew he had to be here" is exactly what you just said. An exceptional Physicist, a crafty instructor and a passionate Bongo player, he is arguably, one of the 'coolest' physicists ever.
Here goes a short list of cool facts:
- When he was on the Manhattan Project he would pick locks in secure areas and leave notes for the security people, pointing out mistakes in their security measures
- At the age of 15, he taught himself trigonometry, advanced algebra, infinite series, analytic geometry, and both differential, integral calculus.
- When asked about his Nobel prize, this is what the great man had to say :“I don’t see that it makes any point that someone in the Swedish Academy decides that the work is noble enough to receive a prize... The prize is the pleasure of finding the thing out, kick in the discovery, the observation that other people use it. those are the real things. The honors are unreal,” .
- Feynman is claimed to be the only person to see the very first nuclear blast at Trinity with the naked eye. Instead of wearing thick glasses, he protected himself from the UV radiation by watching the detonation from behind a truck windshield.
