Marin Health Hospital provides a year long college-level student program that rotates volunteers into all inpatient care areas. The rotation includes Med-Surg, Maternity, Cardiac Care, ICU, Emergency Department, and Surgery areas. I volunteered for a 4-hour weekly shift for the program. During my shift, I stocked medical supplies, answered patient call lights and assembled breast pump kits. I also assembled cardiac patient belonging bags, and answered to call lights when appropriate.

I completed this internship the summer before my senior year. KP Launch is a seven-week competitive summer internship for exposure to careers in healthcare. I was assigned to Hospital Administration and got to work in different departments, such as the emergency department and ICU. I had the amazing opportunity to watch a total hysterectomy surgery. After completing this internship, I was certain that I want to pursue a career in the medical field.
