My name is Emberly Lopez Escobar. I am a freshman at Dominican University of California. I am extremely lucky to be born and raised in Marin County due to the endless opportunities I can grasp. I am the oldest daughter of immigrant parents who came from Guatemala. My family and I are Catholic. Three anchors in my life are family, education, and religion. I am a hardworking and dedicated student whose dream is to become a Molecular Biologist.
Both of my parents were born and raised in Guatemala but immigrated to the US early in their teen years. I have always longed to go see what their life was like, get to know family, and have a deeper connection to my roots.
I have recently visited Guatemala in the summer of 2024. I was overjoyed to see family and being able to speak my native language everyday anywhere. Seeing how green, alive, and peaceful every corner was. I am grateful to be able to create a richer bond and connection with family who I never got the chance to meet before.
