St. Charles East High School has a very rich history in the performing arts. Ever since the contribution of our impressive auditorium by Dellora A. Norris, we have taken advantage of the stage to put on a show. Drama club is an opportunity to get to know other students who share your interests, learn new skills, and share your talents both on and off stage. Everyone can belong whether or not you want to be put on the stage; there is always something you can do. Three main stage productions are presented each year - fall and winter plays, and a spring musical. Auditions are held for each individual production. Students are not only found on stage; they serve in all technical areas as well, including stage management, directing, design, set construction, costuming, lighting, make-up, sound and publicity.

"The International Thespian Society (ITS), an honorary group for middle and high school theatre students, is a division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA). The mission of ITS is to honor student excellence in the theatre arts. Thespian troupes are just a component of a school’s theatre program. ITS membership offers many valuable benefits, services, and opportunities to troupe directors and Thespians alike." ~ ITS Handbook
At our Thespian Initiation night, you will receive a certificate, card and a subscription to Dramatics magazine (via online or paper). It is recognized as a International Honors Society. See the Honors Society website for more information about it and for scholarship applications.
Should we include current members????
Thespian Point System - This is the point sheet that tells you how many points you earn for certain roles. Generally, 1 point equals 10 hours. It is encouraged to earn these points in at least two categories of theatre (ie. not just all in acting or all in production). For our troupe, we have a thwo show requirement before you are inducted into our troupe. This all can happen in one year or can be spread out through years at STCE. Our initiation night is the same night as the Drama Club Banquet.
Can seniors still apply? - Yes! You may submit to become part of this troupe even though you are graduating.
What is the Thespian Troupe doing next year? We hold meetings and plan events that will be scattered throughout the year (promote productions, Illinoins High School Theatre Festival, workshop events, etc). Members of this troupe are eligible to be officers. Those include president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, class representatives, publicity coordinator, web master, cloak and dagger representative, crew representatives, and historians. See here for for advantages of becoming an International Thespian troupe member.
What if I didn't make the qualifications? No worries. You can still be part of the STCE Theatre Dept! Yes, you can attend anything planned by the Thespian Troupe and yes, you may help if they require it. This will just helps you in your journey to become a member the next year!
Is there a fee? Yes, there is a one time fee of $35 to help pay for the costs of membership. This basically pays for the Dramatics magazine that you get once you become a member and applies to all the resources available to you as well, like scholarships! Checks can be made out to STCE Drama Club or pay in cash.
How do I find out more about announcements for the Troupe? Check Google Classroom! It contains all the information for the Drama Club and troupe meetings. Parents are welcome to access our google classroom also. Students and parents are to email Mrs. Bundy for access.
