Introduction to Studio Art

Creative Lines

The Creative Lines project was a fun project. First our class each made 6 random lines of 3 pieces of paper. Then Mr. Langmaack had 9 people pick a line then line them up. Then we had to draw little pictures within those lines. After that project we drew the big picture with all the lines!

Hand Drawing

The hand drawing was both fun and difficult. First Mr. Langmaack had us practice shading and drawing things in both perspective and perfectly. Then we took a photo of our hand with a tool. Mr. Langmaack printed it out and then we started doubling and drawing the photo. After we finished drawing, we shaded it it. Then we were done!

Landscape Painting

The landscape painting was both fun and difficult. It was fun to experiment with the colors and paint strokes, but it was difficult to make sure the painting looked like the picture. Mr. Langmaak showed us how to paint first in a demo. Then we found a photo of a landscape we wanted to paint. After that we used a website to make it blurry. Mr. Langmaak then printed it out for us and we got to painting! I loved painting this and would definitely do it again.

Clay Jars

When Mr. Langmaack first introduced the clay jar project I was very excited. I really like making things out of clay and jars are very useful. First we started  with the base of the jar, we made the shape we wanted and then cut it in half using a wire. Then we hollowed out the inside of the top and bottom. We then added the decorations we wanted. I added bumps and leaves to make a pineapple. After it had been in the kiln and dried out, we painted it and then fired it again. Super fun project, would definitely do it again.

Clay Whistle

When Mr. Langmaack first introduced the whistle project to us, I was a little unsure. The steps seemed easy enough. But when we first made it, I could not get it to whistle! I redid it over and over and finally it worked. Then we just had to add decorations to what we wanted it to be! I added eyes, a tail, fins, and water coming out the top. I had a lot of fun making the whistle and would definitely do it again.

Clay Bowl

The bowl project was a lot of fun. I could experiment with the patterns in the bowl. It was also fun to get my hands a little dirty. After a little bit preparation, I could add clay to the plastic bowl that doubled as a mold. After shaping and adding details and then smoothing and slipping. It was ready to go in the kiln. It came out and then I glazed it. I was trying to go for a pomegranate-ish look, it didn't really look but I think it still looks good. Would definitely do this project again!

Oil Pastel Insect

For this project, I chose a butterfly. It was a really cool blue color and I thought it looked really good. First, we outlined the butterfly, and then we started working with the oil pastels, working from the inside out to the outside. When I had finished, I liked the final project. I would do this project again. I loved working with the oil pastels.

UnderWatercolor Painting

This painting was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it quite a bit. My color scheme was Analogous with purple and blue. I decided on whales because I was going to SeaWorld for spring break. First, I colored in the back of the printed photo and then traced it over the watercolor photo. Then I could start watercoloring. The whales were quite easy to do, taking each whale layer by layer, til I got the look I wanted. The blending of the background was a little hard, but I got it where I wanted it. I kept adding layers and layers and layers. Until I thought it was perfect!

Bird Book

The bird book was super fun to make. First we had to choose our bird photo off of Google. Then we had to make it inverse and change the color. After we printed it out, we traced it onto a printing plate and cut out the right spots. After we were done we rolled ink onto the plate and printed the bird onto a paper. When we had all the different types of colors and papers we wanted. We glued our favorite prints onto the book! This project was a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again.

Custom Box

The custom box was a fun project to do. We had to make the metal name outline by stretching the metal out to make the letters.  I chose my mother's name as a Mother's Day gift. Then we had to make the box by cutting out the sides and gluing them together, as well as the lid. After putting together the box we glued on the paper to add the fun colors.
