I am somewhat nervous about making this portrait of Dacial. The world he lives in is very stressful and distressing compared to the world I live in and I want to make sure there's something he's looking forward to. I think it's important for us as Christians to do our best to reflect God's artistic behavior and reflect the image of God by making portraits for fellow image-bearers. And I think that in order to reflect God's artistry, we should make the best portrait possible to show the beauty in God's creation.
Thoughts on the Project
Q: What is the most important aspect of this portrait?
A: I believe the most important aspect of this project are the kid's impressions of our portrait. We need to make sure to create a portrait that the kids will be happy to have in their house and to be proud of. The most important aspect is showing their likeness and reflect the fact that they are made in the Image of God.
Q: How might this activity be considered worship?
A: This project observes the beauty of the Image of God by having us create something like our Creator did. God is an artist, He has created the most beautiful things in the world and we reflect that through us creating portraits. It can be considered worship through us reflecting Him and His creation aspect.
Q: How will you know if you are successful on this assignment?
A: I know I will be successful because I have others to help and support me when I am making my portrait. I also have the abilities and skills to make a good portrait and I trust that the Lord will help me through it. I trust that God will help me make the portrait He believes will make His glory known unto others.
I tried all of the styles for the portrait which were sketch pencils, colored pencils, and oil pastels. I didn't care for colored pencils, and I couldn't get a hang of oil pastels, so I decided to go with what I am most familiar with, sketching. I believe that sketching will help me make the best portrait possible for Dacial so that I can show just how great God can be. Although I did not care for the other styles of drawing, I do wish I could learn them properly one day.
I had a fun yet challenging time making this portrait. I persevered through it though so I could make a good, finished product and make something that Dacial can be happy with. I really did not expect it to turn out as well as it did, since I had spent so much time on it but it came out good. I just wish I didn't get black marker on the ear, and there is some red marker staining in Dacial's face but I think overall Dacial will be happy with it.
I was very happy to see that all the kids from Honduras were pleased with their portraits. I was happy to make the world a kinder and more positive place, which is what Christ intends us to do. I'm glad that I was able to make a change in the world even if it was a small one. I hope all those children grow up to be great people who honor Christ and make the world a better place.
