INTRODUCTION TO ART

CREATIVE LINES DRAWING

For this project I was given 9 lines to create a drawing out of. It was challenging for me to imagine how they could all come together to make one big picture. Once I figured out what I wanted to draw I had a lot of fun and I am very happy with my end result.

CLAY BOWL

I was excited to make this clay bowl even before we started. To make the bowl I used coils and shaped them into a fun design around a plastic bowl that was there to keep it in place. The trickiest part was not being able to see the design until I was finished but, I am very happy with how it turned out.

CLAY JAR

For my jar project I made an orange. I first started by making a round cylinder and shaved the top half off in order to carve out the inside. After It was carved I made two leaves and a stem and attached them to the top of the jar which was the most difficult part. Before we put it in the kiln, we used a stamp to make the outside of the jar the same texture that an orange would have. Overall I am very happy with how this project turned out and I enjoyed the process.

ACRYLIC INSECT PAINTING

In all honesty, this project was pretty difficult and took a long time for me to complete. That being said I am so happy with how the end result turned out. My favorite part is orange pop in the butterfly. I learned how to give an acrylic painting depth and how to layer colors. The most challenging part of this project  was the flower because of the highlights and shadows that were to be painted. All in all I really enjoyed this project and can't wait to work with more acrylic in the future.

CLAY WHISTLE

In this project I learned a lot. I learned how to make a whistle out of clay by making two pinch pots and an a piece that looked like an eraser. I then poked a Popsicle stick in the eraser until I felt that it went all the way through. Then I poked a hole through the top and made sure it whistled. When it came time to design it Erika, Kara, and I all made farm animals to make a barnyard. I shaped two ears and two eyes which I placed close together to give it a cartoon feel. I then gave it some wool by rolling lots of small balls and put them all on top of the sheep's "head". I am so happy with the end result and I think it this is one of my best projects.

WATERCOLOR PAINTING

In this project I learned so much about watercolor and adding pen details. Some things I learned were that you have to add multiple layers of paint to gradually make darker colors. I learned that when making the background you put water down first and then add paint splotches until you are happy with how it looks, once it is dry, you don't touch it again. I also learned how to add textures and lines with pen to make your painting look real. I also found out about the four different color schemes, for this painting I chose a complementary color scheme. I think that I did a good job on my starfish and now know what I can do in the future to improve my watercolor skills.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCES

For this project we paired up and worked as a class to make a spot the difference book for children that will be in the the waiting room at the dentist. I am so proud of the final book and my hope is that kids will get to enjoy our photoshop art. In this project I learned how to change the color of objects, remove something from a photo, how to flip an object,  to resize something, and to duplicate objects. Overall I am happy with the book and grateful that I now know how to use photoshop.

3D STORY

This project was kind of tricky at first before I had an idea of what story I was going to build. I started by making the ground out of a piece of cardboard, construction paper, and a cut up paper bag. I then made the tent out of bent paperclips and a magazine page. I made the people out of rolled up pieces of magazine and the trees out of popsicle sticks and crumbled up pages. I enjoyed being creative and using my imagination to make a story out of stuff I already had around my house.

Sgraffito Plate

Using clay I took a plastic plate and used it as a mold for my plate. Once it was dry I was able to apply glaze and then hand drew a flower design that was to be scratched out using an exact-o knife. My middle name is Rose which inspired me to glaze the plate red and to use a flower as my design. This project was tricky at first when handling unplanned chips in the glaze but once I learned to embrace them it really enhanced my project.

Textured Slab

I decided to pick a lantern design because I liked how unique and flexible it was to be creative. I used stencils to cut out the shape of the lantern and then picked my favorite stamps and textures for the sides and lid. I wanted my lantern to look like a vast ocean with big suns above it. One of the challenging parts of this project was keeping the shape symmetrical, but I ended up loving how it turned out.

Realistic Animal

I picked a llama as my clay animal design. This is my favorite animal so I was very intrigued to try to make it look as life-like as possible. I started out by carving out its basic shape then added some texture. Once I was happy with how my llama looked, it went in the kiln. Then I used reference photos to add color using acrylic paints to achieve my final product. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and learned many new things from it.

Foam Object

I decided to create an orange creamsicle for my project. Overall this project was a lot of fun and got easier the more I worked with the foam. I started by cutting down a piece of foam into the general size, then used files to round it into the desired shape. To add a more realistic look I used a dremel to give the ice cream a melted bottom. I had a fun time working with a new medium and can see myself making more foam creations in the future.
