Madison's Intro to Studio Art

Creative Lines

This is my creative lines project. This started off as just nine random scribbles on a piece of paper. But, now it is a wonderful treasure map. This project was quite challenging to me. I am not the most creative person so it was really hard for me to figure out what to make out of these lines. I went through a couple ideas but this one ended up being my favorite. In doing this project I learned how to use color pencils properly and how to think a little more outside the box.

3D Story

I chose this story of when we broke down in our boat at Lake Shasta because it is interesting and has enough substance to it that I was able to create a scene and memory from it. By using this story I was able to create multiple things to help tell the story. I used magazines and what was in the brown paper bag Mr. Langmaack gave us. I used my art skills to design and then execute a plan to build the boats and jet ski on a lake. I was only allowed to use certain things which made it more challenging but a lot more rewarding once I finished it. I definitely achieved my goals in this project. I think it looks great and really tells the story well.

The Awesomest Jar Boot Ever

I chose a boot to be the model of my jar because I wasn't really sure what to do at first but then I realized that I should do a boot because they are my favorite type of shoes. I wear my boots to work and ride all the time. Seeing the end product, my favorite part of my jar is the spur. I think it looks very nice and cool. My least favorite part is the way I painted the design on the boot. This is what I hoped for as the end product because I really like how it ended up looking and the shape of it.

Clay Whistle

I chose to shape my whistle into a Texas Longhorn. I thought that it would turn out really cool and it did. In the process I had to learn to be more patient than I normally am. I originally thought that it would be hard because I did not think that I had the ability to make the whistle work, but after a lot of work and some help from Mr. Langmaack I finally got it to work. Then, I got to design it into a longhorn and it turned out amazing. It is what I hoped for and I impressed myself in how good it actually turned out. The goal of this project was to make a working cool whistle which I achieved.

Clay Coil Bowl

In the final product of this project I really liked how the pattern turned out. I was a little worried at first that it wouldn't look great but it actually does. The one think that I don't really like about it is the smoothness of the outside. I think I could of got it smoother but I really like how the yellow contrasts with the blue on the outside. In doing this project I really had to trust myself that it would turn out because once I put it on I just had to smooth the outside and hope that the pattern on the inside would look good which it does. I was worried that I would mess it up and not know and be stuck with it but once I really trusted myself it was a lot easier.

Hand Drawing

While drawing my drawing I had to learn quite a few new skills. I learned how to properly draw a drawing. I didn't know before that there were different shades of pencils, I thought they were all the same and it didn't matter. I learned to trust myself more and it will turn out fine. In seeing the final product of my drawing I am really proud. I feel that I did really good and I worked really hard on it. It helped show me how my hard work really does pay off. In the future I will trust myself more in the process because through this drawing I learned that I am not as bad of a drawer that I thought I was.

Underwatercolor

Through doing this painting I had quite a few doubts about if I could do it. I was always worried that I would mess it up because whatever I did was permanent and I couldn't erase anything. I think that my painting turned out okay. I definitely learned that I would rather draw with a pencil than water color but that's okay because it gave me the opportunity to learn that. I really had to work hard at keeping control of the paint while moving fast so it wouldn't dry on me half way through. I didn't ever realize how much work and skill goes into water color but I now know it.
