intro to art
creative lines
This drawing was quite a difficult thing to create. Our class had created the most impossible lines known to man. It was a struggle enough to make something out of each line individually, let alone all together. When I found out we had to draw all the lines together, I was terrified. I had no idea how I was going to do this. I first was going to do an ocean, but everyone was doing that. I wanted an idea that was not used by anyone else. I began to see a space ship and I had the idea of space. I really wanted to do something space related because I love astronomy. I began to see the abstract lines as nebula and galaxies with meteors. I colored with colored pencils and it all came together. I really like how it turned out.
hand drawing
This drawing was incredibly difficult for me. I have never been good at drawing, let alone drawing perfectly. I had to choose a tool, so I chose this paint roller, as it looked like it would be the easiest thing to draw. It was also fun to hold. The hardest part was drawing the hand. I hate drawing hands with all of my soul but I think it turned out pretty okay. My favorite part and easiest part was the coloring. It was actually pretty enjoyable. This drawing was quite the challenge and I really enjoyed making it. I am proud of the results.
insect painting
This is my favorite piece I've created so far. I was nervous at first since I was not a fan of painting. We were instructed to pick a photo of any insect and paint it. I chose to paint a black widow because I thought they were pretty and it was almost Halloween. The background was the most challenging to paint. Trying to make it seem sketchy while adding different colors was quite difficult for me. The spider was the easy part. It was fun to add highlights and I really enjoyed painting the spider. I painted the border red to make the hourglass on the widow pop more. This was so fun to paint and I really enjoyed it.
clay jar
This was the first clay piece I have created and by far the easiest. It was so fun to put together and then bring to life by painting it. I chose a pumpkin because it was October at the time of creating this (it didn't get finished until January). I loved making this. The only problem I had with this was hollowing the jar out after cutting it open. It was pretty difficult to make sure it had the right thickness. It was also difficult to get the perfect shape for the jar. Overall, this was a great first clay project!
clay bowl
The clay bowl I have created here is my favorite clay piece I have made. It was so fun to put together and I loved that I was able to take creative liberties in designing it. My favorite part about this bowl is the design. The only difficulty was painting it with all the holes it had. The paint would drip through the holes and cause a mess. I loved how it turned out and I am so glad that i got to create this bowl!
clay whistle
This whistle was very fun to make! I loved playing it and the sounds that it created. The design is supposed to be an axolotl, but not many understood that reference. The most difficult part of this project was trying to get it to whistle. That part was very frustrating, to say the least. When I finally did get the hang of it, everything was smooth sailing from there. I'm glad that I could finish off the clay projects with a successful whistle.
watercolor
I have a love-hate relationship with this painting. I love how it turned out, but it was not my favorite to make. Watercolor is something I struggle with and this was one of my most challenging projects. I love that I got to pick the animal and the colors, but if I could do it again, I would maybe pick a different animal, such as a whale shark. Manta rays are my favorite animals, but painting a flat object was difficult to add dimension.
printmaking one
This project was a satisfying one to carve, but I messed up on the owl's face. I accidentally carved too much off and took off part of the beak. That is about the only thing I do not like about my project though. In this print, I made a clean picture of my owl with black ink on white paper.
printmaking two
These two prints were very fun to do. For the top one, I used brown ink on three different papers. Then I cut the stump and the owl out of the white and brown print. I glued the owl and stump onto the black background to create this affect. For the bottom print, I cut out a piece of newspaper about the size of the slab. I then printed red ink onto the newspaper. I liked how it turned out.
printmaking three
These two prints were my favorite. For the top one, I printed blue onto the dark gray paper one day and came back the next day and printed red on top to give it a 3D effect. For the bottom one, I put pink, yellow, and orange ink and blened it into an ombre. I printed that onto pink paper to give an evening look. I really loved hwo these two turned out.
name box project
This project was a bit challenging with the measurements. i was bad at cutting the foam, causing the box to look a bit crooked. It was really nice to see how it turned out though. This was definitly not my favorite, but it was a good last project of the year.
