Throughout the process of my drawing, I learned the importance of lines, value, and shapes. I also learned how to put them into practice. I was new to using different pencil hardnesses, a blending stump, and doubling images. My goal for this project was to get my drawing to look as realistic as possible and I achieved it. The hardest part of my project was creating the grainy texture of the wrench. I figured out that the best way to do that was to use the electric eraser to make small white spots all throughout the textured area and then take my blending stump and lightly shade over it.
Throughout the proccess of my painting, I learned many new skills. I had a lot of prior knowledge about acrylic painitng, but I still learned new techniques. I learned how to view things as shapes of color and not as what they really were. I also learned how to blend the colors to make it look like the hills have movement. My goal for the project was to keep myself from making it too realistic and like the picture I chose. I think I did a good job of showing the flowers on the mountain in their general area without mapping out exactly where they were and what kind of flowers they were.
This was my first time working with clay this year. I was very indecisive with my design. There was a Koi fish pattern that I wanted to do, but I decided on a floral print. I was very happy with the way that it turned out and I learned a lot through the creation proccess. I learned how to glaze, shape, and join the clay. I have scored and slipped clay before, but I learned that you can always use more slip and wipe the excess off. Overall, I am proud of the turn out. It was supposed to be a more sky-blue glaze but I still like this one.
This was one of my favorite projects so far. I really like working with clay and at this point, I started to get the hang of it. The skipes took me quite a while because I had to use thee end of a paintbrush and some slip to paint each individual one on. I had fun trying out all of the different options for me to make spikes, and I am glad that I chose to poke them on. The glazing process was a bit new for me this time because I hadn't used multiple glazes on one project before. If I could change something, I would be more careful with overlapping my glazes to prevent running and using a glossy one on the fins and eyes. I still really like the turnout and it whistles really well.
This took me a lot longer than it should have, but now I realize what took so long. When I was placing the coils on my bowl, I blended them together like i was supposed to, but then i also smoothed everything out. What I could've changed it my process was just blending and getting all of the coils on and then smoothing everything. Based on my results, the only thing I would change about the finished product is being more exact with my cuts so that it cleaned up nicer on the inside. I really like the design I chose and the cutouts. If I could, I would also change the glaze I chose because I dont really like the green, but it still works. Even though I would have changed a lot if given the chance, I still really like it.
Watercoloring is one of my favorite things to do. Before this project, I had mostly just watercolored handmade cards to give to people. If I could change something right from the start, I would have used a better reference picture so I coud make it more realistic. The picture I was using only had splashes of color all over and no definition. That made it hard for me to invision how to add it in. The background was also just a solid color and I think it would have looked more finished if I had some sort of ocean scene. I still am proud of the turnout. I like the color scheme I chose and that they played well together.
