Intro to Studio Art
Creative Lines
This project was fun for our first thing in art class! First we all drew lines and then as a class we decided what lines to combine into a grid without knowing what the project was. We had nine lines on our paper and we had to draw one big picture. I drew a brick house on a lake with some grass around it. The house is polluting the environment so the birds around it are very upset. I would do this project again but maybe with less complex liness.
Hand Drawing
This was our second project in intro to studio art! For this project, first we took a picture of our hand and a tool. Then we had this piece of paper to mark vertical and horizontal dots. After we drew all of them, we connected them and started shading. One hard thing was that I couldn't get my finger just right. Another hard thing was to create drama with shading. It was fun to see the progress through the days and weeks. I think I like painting better than drawing because it's easier to see the mistakes when drawing.
Insect Painting
Insect Painting
This was our third project in Intro to Studio Art. It was hard at first but then once I learned how to add shadows and highlights, it made my artwork better. I liked mixing the paint together and painting the plants. Another hard thing about this project was making sure that I didn't paint over details. It was also hard to not get black on the white areas. When I glued the painting down, the canvas got kind of wrinkly so I had to add more weight. I would do this project again because I enjoyed painting and it was fun to see my progress throughout the project.
Clay Jar
For the Semester we started doing a lot of clay things. Our first clay project was a clay jar. I thought this project was a lot of fun because I could do pretty much anything I wanted. I wanted to make an abstract jar so I made a cube and cut some lines out of it. I liked this project but it was hard to know if my colors were going to look good together.
Clay Coil Bowl
For this project I had a bunch of coils that I wrapped around a plastic bowl to make a clay bowl. I thought this project was kind of hard because I couldn't see what the inside looked like. I was also nervous that when I took the plastic bowl off that my bowl was going to fall apart. But it didn't because I blended it pretty well. I kind of liked this project once I was finished but the process was kind of hard.
Clay Whistle
For our last clay project we did clay whistles. I thought this project was fun because I could make anything I wanted into something that would actually function. I think that if I could have done something differently I would have done more coats of the white but I thought that three would be enough. Overall, I liked our clay time that we had in art.
Under Water Watercolor
To start our water color unit, we painted animals. We had to choose an underwater animal to paint. For me this was difficult because I didn't see all the details at first so when I went back the next day I would wish I hadn't done some things the way I would have wanted. This project was harder than the clay projects because I didn't know when to stop adding layers. I wish I would've done an animal that was bigger that way I could've paid attention to detail. Overall, I was happy with my end result!
Print Making
A new thing that I tried in art class was print making. We got a carving block and a picture from online and made blocks that we could roll ink on to produce an image. We made 5 different ones and l had to glue them into the booklet. I had to practice a few times before I could get it perfect. The only thing I didn't like about this project was that it took a really long time. By the end of this I got bored but other than that, it was fun.
Foam Box
This was a good project to end Intro into Art. It was pretty easy but did take a little bit of patience and hard work. The hardest part of the project was that the table mates had to explain to other table mates what the directions were. It was also hard to make sure my table mates didn't mess up. I liked this project and I think I could do this at home if I wanted.
