Emily's Art Portfolio

Christmas Colored pencil drawing

I loved this art piece because it let me channel my Love for Christmas. When I was assigned this project I already knew I wanted to do Christmas, and surprisingly it didn't take that long to use the lines to my advantage. I did get stumped on the lines I used for the dog and Santa's face, but other than that I feel like most of the lines blended together. There are so many little details to the point that at first glance it looks a little chaotic. But I think that just adds to the last weeks till Christmas that are most chaotic. This piece taught me that it is possible to take random lines that don't seem to go together and make a unique and detailed art pieces that makes sense.

Hand Drawing

I enjoyed making this drawing even thought at some points I just wanted to give up. The hardest part was the middle finger and this is where my problems started. Every time I started it I felt like it was too dark. I ended up doing my pointer finger and thumb first and then moving down to my other fingers. I enjoyed at the end adding the final details to the thumb and finally being able to glue it and put it on the wall.

Landscape painting

This piece was actually really hard but also fun once it was done. One of the biggest things for me was that there is no eraser so if you mess up you have to wait for it to dry and then try to cover it up. My favorite part of paint was the snow, rocks, and trees in the front because I feel like it was easy and it made the painting look less flat. I had a rough start to this painting but in the end I think that it turned out okay.

Clay Jar:

I really enjoyed making this piece. When it was first introduced to us I knew I wanted to do something Christmas but it wasn't until we were shown examples from past year and I saw a gingerbread house and I knew that's what I wanted to do.  When I started it took many trys to get the perfect house shape which was surprising because most people would think it would be easy.  I remember when I told Langmaack that I wanted to make a gingerbread house he told me it was going to be difficult but that only made me want to make it even better and add even more detail.  I would like to give credit to Leah Gann who helped make the balls on the side of the roof while I added details to the house and Langmaack who cut the top of my jar because I didn't want to mess it up after all the work I had put in. I had a blast making this piece and would love to make another jar.

Clay bowl:

I enjoyed this project but it was definitely a trial and error. At first I had a completely different design, I was going to do the sun and the moon but about half way through with making the design on the bowl and putting coils on I changed my mind about the design.  I didn't end up using the whole bowl mold for my ending bowl like my old design instead I did about half way and added my ending coil. My biggest fear was that because of all the open space in my bowl that it could crack but there was no cracking and my bowl is completely sturdy and secure.  And it makes a perfect Christmas gift, I'm thinking a bowl for fruit.

Clay Whistle:

I made a rat, dog, rabbit hybrid. It originally was supposed to be a rabbit but then it looked more like a rat dog so now its all three.  I had a rough start to this project and had to restart the whistle part 5 times. Reese ended up having to make the holes for the whistle. The rat, dog, hybrid had both ears and nails originally but someone snapped them off so it just became a special whistle.  I'm not going to lie this was't my favoite project but it was still fun to learn how to do it and make the animal itself.

Butterfly oil pastel drawing

I really liked how this piece turned out! It had a slow start to it though because at first it was a dragonfly and I wasn't sold on it so I had to start over and changed my insect into this butterfly. I found that for this piece it was easiest to start with the insect itself and them move onto the flower and leaves, and end with the backround. I would like to give credit to langmackk who helped me by showing me how to do the flower petals and start the background.  And Leah Gann who helped me with blending colors for the leaves.  I am very proud and love how it turned out.

Underwater watercolor:

I really loved this art piece and I know I say that a lot but this piece is definitely my favorite piece that I've made this year. I did analogous greens and blues. I love turtles and I love how this turtle turned out. I've never done water colors like this and if I'm being honest I didn't think this was going to turn out this good.  I was very pleased with the result and had a lot of fun creating this and seeing other watercolors.

Title Parrot Print

Printing: This was a very fun piece to work on. There were some struggles like putting too much or too little ink and not pushing down the plate on the paper hard enough. But after a couple failed attempts the end result was worth the struggle. Going into this project I was dreading doing it because I remember making simple prints in middle school and that felt hard but I surprised myself with making this piece.  I actually enjoyed making this and having the freedom of choice in colors.  The Ombre and the double print were my favorite prints I made so thats why I chose these two to put on my art portfolio.  The thing that really kept me going was that this piece makes a good gift for my little sister.

Final Project: Box

I really enjoyed this project and am very glad we ended the year with this box. This box was fun and easy to make which made it a nice wrap to the year. I chose to do aluminum for my metal and did my name. I had no trouble with any parts of this project. I love intro to art and can't wait till next year 2d art!
