Intro to art
3D Story
I told the story of my bike being stolen at a CVS by a homeless man. I made sure to use all of the random materials provided to me by my teacher without relying on the materials found around the classroom. I wish I would've used pliers to shape the paperclips for the bike instead of my fingers but I only found out about the pliers after I was finished. I used hole stretching across the base of the board and a wooden stick to give the car the ability to move. The homeless man was made completely of random materials including: 3 paper clips, a Popsicle stick, and a rubber band to hold it all together.
HAnd TOol drawing
I used nothing but pencils and erasers to replicate a photo of my hand holding a hammer. I learned to double an image in size using pieces of paper for scale. My goal was to make a realistic hand drawing and I sorta failed, I'm not very proud of my drawing but I put a lot of effort into it. I may have rushed my shading by being inpatient which led me to finish my project second outta my whole class. The best part of my project is probably the hammer's head and the worst is probably the shading or fingers. This piece helped me learn pencil drawing, shading, and scaling a picture which will help me in all of my projects going towards the future.
Landscape Painting
I chose to paint this specific landscape because it is the landscape showcased in the album cover of one of my favorite albums. I feel like I rushed this painting and messed up a lot while changing the painting over and over. Despite my mistakes i'm happy with the finished product overall and feel I learned a lot about painting from this project. I learned to cover all white spots that shine through from the paper to make your painting more full and professional looking. This is how I imagined the painting looking for the most part and you can differentiate from part to part of the painting. Mine is unique by it being the only painting including people in the painting but I still think it worked out.
Clay Jar
I chose these specific colors to match the colors of "Spider-Man" as he is seen in his iconic red and blue suit. I used clay to build from the bottom up into a jar shape. I learned to sculpt, carve, and mold clay in this lesson. The goal of the project was to make a jar that could open and close without the lid falling over. It is sorta what I imagined in my head but I believe I could do better the more I worked with clay. What I like best is the dots that array the top of the jar. I enjoyed creating this piece and it was a great intro to the world of clay.
Clay Whistle
In this project I was able to put my clay training to the test in making a clay whistle. The process of making it whistle was definitely the hardest part but through perseverance and trying again and again I succeeded. When told to turn my whistle into something cool the first thing that came to mind was the "Graduation Bear'' from Kanye West's iconic 3 album run "The College Dropout", "Late Registration", and "Graduation". When making it I used a 3D model I found on the web and used that as a reference, from there I molded the face to fit the bear. I created ears to top it off and a nose to add as a center piece. After turning my whistle to a bear I glazed it 3 times and got it baked turning it into a functioning Kanye West whistle.
Clay Bowl
I used clay to create a bowl with spirals around the whole thing. I learned complex clay molding skills to create a bowl that stand up on it's own and stays together in one piece. I made this bowl in the hopes it would be a whiteish grey that could fit my step mom's "Modern Aesthetic" of her kitchen. The outcome came out greenish which confuses me but maybe this is just a lesson for next time. My favorite part of the bowl was the spirals that spread across the sides of it. I hope this inspires me to continue working and improving in my clay work.
