This was my very first project in 3D Art. It was a great introduction on how to shape clay for my very first time! There were definitely places I could've refined such as smoothing out the edges a little bit, but overall I'm very glad on how my Raku Tea Bowl turned out! The process on burning them was a very interesting process to watch. I can still smell the burnt part of the tea bowl!
This project was supposed to have the final result of a design in the middle of the plate and making a clay plate. At first, my design cracked and I had to restart. Even though it looks lots of extra time to catch up with everyone else, I managed to finish and I'm very proud of how it turned out! I learned how to carve through clay and trace a great design on to a plate. The final design was something that I would not have expected if I were myself from a week or two ago.
This project was supposed to be a hexagon box that is able to store items inside of. This was the longest project yet and there were definitely troubling times during this project. My first design, I wasn't very proud of at first. I restarted then chose the design on the sides that I would eventually stick with. I'm pretty proud of how my box turned out to be and I learned a lesson that I can start over if I'm not proud of what I made.
This project required us to make our first and last initials into a personal logo. A middle initial was optional, and I wanted to add it in order for my box to look like how it looks. I wish I was better at painting/drawing, so that the logos of the teams that I put looked better, but I worked with what I could for this project. This was a very enjoyful project because I was able to put all of my interests on to my initials. This was definitely a hard project for me, since mine was probably one of the biggest in the class and it took some time to even build in the first place. However, despite not being able to paint very well, I am proud of how this project turned out. My dad definitely helped too, bringing some yellow straws to make the field goal posts.
This project required us to make any animal out of clay and try to make the clay as realistic to an animal as possible. This project also required us to look up pictures of animals and try to replicate those pictures as best as we could in the clay model. I have never been the best at copying ideas down onto drawings or clay models. To be honest, I am very proud of how my animal turned out because I thought it would turn out to be much worse. I also had to restart from a way smaller version of this animal and that turned out to be a very good decision that I had made. Overall, this ram turned out to be a big highlight in growing my art skills for me.
This project required us to use our creative thinking skills and make a lamp, that doesn't look so ordinary! I think that this was a very unique project and probably one of my favorites. The main reason as to why this project ended up being one of my favorites was becuase we were able to wing the project and still complete the goal! One of my good friends also gave me an idea that took less time and honestly made the lamp look a million times better. I think that this was one of the best projects that I have done this year.
This project first required the knowledge of how to use a pottery wheel. This part was definitely one of the most enjoyable times I have had in 3D Art, learning valuable skills for using a pottery wheel. Once we had finished building our clay mugs, we attached a handle to each mug. This did not work very well with some of my mugs, as some were very small. Once I had attached the handles, we fired the mugs and bowls in the kiln after making minor adjustments with cutting clay. Once the bowls and mugs were fired, we glazed the bowls and then fired the pottery pieces again to create usable mugs and bowls.
For this final project, we were required to build a vase with coils of clay. First, we had to brainstorm what our vase would turn out to be, according to our liking. Once that was finished, we cut out a replica of what the coil vase would turn out to be. Once the replica was cut out and ready, we then took lots of clay coils and built a clay vase out of the coils. Once the coils all built up to make a vase, we then smoothed out the coils to make the coils blend together, then we fired the clay vase in the kilm. Once the coil vase was fired, we then glazed the vase and fired it once again. We were allowed to also put metallic paints on the vase for extra decor. This was definitely a harsh project, also being we had many other projects to focus on and the pottery wheel took up a majority of the time in our class. However, I was able to get the vase done and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.
