For this project, we had to create a three-dimensional sculpture based on a story that happened in our lives. I created a 3D story on how my two dogs started playing tug of war with a possum. My mom, sister, and I ended up throwing the possum into a trash can, after my sister hit it with a shovel. To make this story, I used a lof of AI images. I pasted those images onto a Google slide, and printed them out. The hardest part of this project was deciding what to make a story out of. I'm pretty sure I used the first two class periods trying to figure out what to do. After that, building the story was easier than I thought.
For this project, you had to take a picture of your hand holding a tool and then draw it realistically. So first things first, I found a tool to draw. I chose to draw a paintbrush. Then, I had to use various methods to achieve a realistic drawing. The hardest part of this drawing was the shading. This part was hard because it was a lot more difficult to shade it correctly than I originally thought. This project made me question my sanity at times.
For this project I had to pick a picture and paint it. I chose a picture I took over the summer at Cayucos. I then went on to paint it in sections. First I did the sky, then the bushes that were farther away, then the stairs and railing, lastly the closer up bushes and pathway. I loved this project, it really made me realize how much I enjoy painting.
For this project, we had to make two pinch pots and put them together. We also had to make a mouth piece. Then we carved out a space for the whistle to actually work. After we got it to work, we started on our designs. I chose to decorate my whistle as Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. The hardest part of this project was getting the whistle to work, since the clay would sometimes fall or move out of place. I really liked this project and I think it turned out really good.
This project was much simpler than the whistle. To make it, I simple made a pinch pot and carved out a lid. I used a stamp and some sort of carving tool to accomplish the design on the lid. Then I used to different glazes- dark blue and light blue. I blended the into a sort of ombre, and used it to color the design on the lid. Nothing about this project was necessarily hard, and honestly it was kind of boring to make something so simple.
This was by far the most difficult clay project I did. For starters, we drew our designs on bowls, then covered plastic bowls in paper towels. We drew our designs onto the paper towel with a sharpie. Then we used coils to bring the designs to life. Once that was done, we blow dryed them and put them in the kiln. When mine was in the kiln, it broke. So, I had to spend extra time putting it back together. After that was done, we glazed our bowls. I picked light blue, because I think it's the best looking color. The hardest part was putting it back together, because the clay was so fragile and every time I touched it another piece broke. But I'm happy with how it turned out.
For this project we had to pick out an underwater animal and watercolor it. I chose to paint a whale shark. We had to trace the picture of the animal we chose and paint the background. Then we had to move on to painting the actual animal. The painting part for my animal was pretty easy, it was the white dots that were a challenge. I had to use a white paint pen and place every single dot I had traced to add value to the animal. This part was frustrating because I would keep accidentally smearing the white paint before it could dry, then I had to wait for it to dry to fix it. All in all, learning to watercolor was pretty fun and I enjoyed it.
For this project, we had to pick a picture of an insect to create an oil pastel painting of. First we had to trace the image onto the paper we were given. I started with the background first because it was easier and once I had it colored in I blurred the edges to give it an out of focus effect. Then I started on the moth, which was more difficult to do because I was having a hard time trying to make it not look flat. With Mr. Langmaack's help I was able to finish the moth and I think it came out very well.
This is a banana paper background with red ink over it
For this project we had to make our own plate to print with using an edited photo of a bird. We then carved out the white parts and used what was left to print on paper with ink. I used a double print, which is one color on top of another, and I made a watercolor background to print on.
