Intro to Studio Art

Hand Drawing

I really enjoyed drawing my hand. I chose this paint brush because it looked simple and I knew I could spend a lot more time on my hand. It was very difficult to get the hang of as first, but I got better as I went. I learned how to create a shiny looking surface, and how to create the lightest lights and the darkest darks. This piece made me realize that if you push yourself to try your best, you can get a really good outcome. I know that I accomplished my goal to be honestly surprised at what I did. I would have been happier with mine if I wasn't looking at how much better everyone else's is, but I'm still very happy with what I made. I'm excited to draw more things and get better and better at this type of drawing.

Insect Painting

The insect painting was a very fun project. I chose the picture of this butterfly because I loved the color of the flowers. It was pretty hard to get the right colors I wanted though. As I kept going, it progressively got easier, but it was difficult every time I switched what I was painting. I really loved painting this piece because it brought a whole other perspective of painting. I think I reached my goal of liking the colors that showed on the painting. I was kinda worried that I wouldn't be able to get them right, but I'm happy with what I did. I am really excited to do this again in the future.

Clay Jar

Making my clay jar was a lot of fun, but it was also pretty hard. I don't really know why I chose a log, but it just seemed like it would be a good idea. I don't think it was anymore, I realized how hard it was to make the texture, and then making the colors right was really hard!It only got easier because I started to realize that logs don't have to be perfect, they fade in and out because they're wood. I did enjoy doing this project though because it was fun to see all the steps it had to take to be done. I reached my goal to make a jar that I was pretty happy with. I would not make an actual object if I did it again though. I'm excited to work with clay again and make something I'm hopefully happy with.

Coil Bowl

I had a lot of fun making this bowl. The design I chose, don't really know why I did it. I think it would've turned out better if I had cleaned it up more after taking it out of the plastic bowl. I really regret not taking more time on that. But it turned out cleaner after going through the kiln twice. I enjoyed how we got to be creative, but wish I would've been a little less creative. My design ended up cracking in certain spots because of how it wanted to pull apart. I don't think I actually reached my goal with making an awesome bowl, because I don't really love it. I know now though that I could make something even better because of what I've learned though.

Clay Whistle

I loved making this whistle. It was my favorite project by far. Partially just because I'm so proud of what I accomplished. My favorite part was making the shape of the face, it was fun to make the shape of the nose and ears. But it was also the hardest part, the proportions were so difficult to make. I think I restarted the head 4 times because of it being too big. I definitely reached my goal of making a super cute whistle. I would love to do more things like this in the future.

Underwater Watercolor

It was really fun painting this watercolor piece. It was really hard to draw all the lines because I had SO MANY on there, so it made actually painting it feel easy. I did a complementary color scheme, orange and blue. It was really fun to try blending the oranges and yellows to make the colors of the second fish. But it was hard to not make it dark too quick. Overall, I really liked doing this project and I'm fairly happy with how it turned out.

Bird Prints

Making the bird prints was a fun, and fairly simple project. As long as I didn't cut anything I wasn't supposed to, or put the ink on too thick or thin, it was pretty easy to get the hang of. My favorite part was actually printing. It was fun to roll the ink on and then see it appear on the paper. It was also super mesmerizing to cut all the big and little grooves around the bird, but that was, at the same time, the hardest part. Overall I really enjoyed doing this project.

Spot The Difference

The spot the difference project was a fun and fairly easy project. My favorite part was removing the pole from the shed. But it was really hard to flip the tractor cause it didn't want to pick up the right colors. I would say I enjoyed this project but it was not my favorite.

Foam Box

Making this box was a super fun project. The hardest part for me was getting all the measurements right, and then having them not align correctly. My favorite part was putting my name onto the aluminum. It was hard but it was fun getting it to pop out just right.
