Nigeria

This project consisted of us creating a portrait of kids from Nigeria, portraits that they will later receive, and sending a video back. I heavily enjoyed this project, as it challenged me to draw realistic faces, which I often have a lot of trouble with.

I learned a lot about how different methods of coloring can affect a drawing, each one giving a very different appearance and vibe to the drawing as a whole. After looking at my options and trying out ones I hadn't before, I decided on colored pencil, as for me it was the most enjoyable while still maintaining a level of challenge I was comfortable with.

This project helped me by allowing me to work on my skills of creating beauty, thinking outside the box, and drawing people and cultures that I usually never interact with.

It took me a bit to get into the flow of drawing and choosing the right color, however as I got more comfortable I was able to freely explore what colors looked best and where they needed to go. The end product turned out very beautiful in my opinion, and I'm overall very proud of it.

I hope she feels very happy when she receives this portrait, and I really hope it brings a smile to her face and helps her realize how beautiful she is. I would tell her that.. "I just want you to know that if you are out there and you are being really hard on yourself right now for something that has happened … it’s normal. That is what is going to happen to you in life. No one gets through unscathed. We are all going to have a few scratches on us. Please be kind to yourselves and stand up for yourself".
