Andrew Blundell- Intro to Art

This water-color painting is the first project that I had completed in the intro to art class, despite this being the second project we had started. We were instructed to choose a sea animal, and I chose the flying fish because in 3rd Grade, I had done a report on them, and they looked cool, but not too difficult. Going into the project, I was worried about water color and how the water would run through the paper, but I believe it resulted well. I wish I had tried to be more creative with the water color because I wasn't using color blending, and the image is quite simple.

Our third project was the first 3-D art project, which is a clay whistle. Personally, this was my least favorite project of the year because I didn't feel like I was making art. I just felt like I was completing an assignment. I decided to do a large whistle simply because Mr. Langmaack said make it awesome, so I added a large tail. I'm glad to have done this project because I now know that I do not want to participate in 3-D art in the future

The 4th project of out intro to art class was acrylic painting. We were instructed to choose an insect that jumps outside of the border. We practiced blending, mixing colors, and light sources. This was a very fun project, and this is where I really tried to avoid copying the picture and just making it look cool with my own colors. That is what happened with the background. I wish we had practiced light sources more because in this painting, most spots of reflection just look like white spots on the beetle. I would also like to practice texture more, as the tree seems flat, and the beetle isn't shiny, but I am very pleased with the result of my first acrylic.

This hand drawing was our first project, yet it took me the entire semester. This was a good lesson to not spend so long on one part of the project. I had spent too much time measuring exactly where everything went with the ruler. It is also very wrinkled as this has been through wind, my backpack, accidentally being thrown in the trash, and Samantha. Despite this, I still think it ended up ok. I just wish it weren't so wrinkled. Definitely learned from this project though.

This paper box was the last project of our Intro class. We din't have much time, so we had to use tile rather than copper for the top design, and we used foam for the box itself. I learned that I am not good at cutting through foam with an exact-o-knife. I didn't really find much value in this project other than that I know I don't want to do 3-D art.
