At the Columbus School District, we utilize an instructional model known as Readers or Writers Workshop. Within this framework, readers and writers, receive ample time and choice for reading and writing. Teachers teach the skills and strategies that proficient readers and writers use, and students have an opportunity to practice with those skills and strategies independently and with support from their teacher. Support comes during the heart of the workshop through small groups, partnerships and individual conferring. Readers and writers are able to meet with their teacher to create goals, receive clear feedback, and use strategies. The goal is that all students become lifelong readers and writers who are able to think critically about the world around them!
If you have questions about your child's reading or writing, Teachers College Reading and Writing Project will be hosting open Office Hours for families. Grade K-2 will be on Wednesday nights and Grade 3-8 will be held on Thursday night at 8:00 PM EST. Use this link to sign up for those Office Hours.
