A little about me:
I joined this 3D modeling and animations class in order to gain experience in what I deem important. I want to become an engineer in the future, so 3D modeling is an important aspect in designing & adjusting the concepts being developed.
I have no experience in other similar classes, unfortunately. The closest experience I would say I've ever had to 3D modeling and animation is occasional drawing I've done for hobbies and making legos.
I have experience in Computer Engineering relating to basic hardware systems, as well as networking Computer systems.

Although I have little experience, I plan to make the most of this class and create great models and designs.
The ship designing process was very simple and straightforward, no advanced techniques were needed to create the ship. I made the majority of the ship, including the hull, with boxes. The Hull required lots of time to shape correctly, and takes up a large percentage of the poly count. The second hardest part was creating many windows. These were very thin and required some tweaking to fit onto the ship appropriately. In some renders you can see they clip through the ship; however, this is just a rendering glitch and does not happen with materials applied. Overall, the technique I used was simple surface modeling.
The UVW wrapping process was very difficult. With a decent amount of polys, and the unwrapping process, I ran into many glitches and roadblocks. Grouping different faces together proved a challenge, and some joints would still be welded together. Next, I made the ocean, which was pretty easy. First I made a plane, and applied a noise modifier to it's Z coordinates. Then a slight shift to X and Y to add slight diversity. These gave me the favorable size for those deep ocean waves.
Artifact 3
The Characters I added were Icebergs, and a Kraken. The scene takes place in the ocean, made with a plane divided into many many segments. I used a Noise modifier and Turbosmooth to make the waves, and adjusted to the right height. I applied a noise bump map to give it a smaller wave texture, although it didn't turn out perfect.
Artifact 4
The lighting was simple and easy. I used an Arnold skydome light, and carefully set the exposure and intensity to 4.4 and 5.5, where the sun looked perfectly bright and illuminating.
Animation was simple, as I had little time to critique everything. The animation was going to be a simple sailing, when a Kraken emerges and blankets the ship. The ship will continue to sail out of frame, and the loop will appear seamless.
Artifact 5
This is my video. It's a little funky, but the lighting is good, the textures are all great, and the idea is comprehensible. The Kraken could use more work, but it's only there for a short time, so you don't notice it. The animation for the kraken was going to be better as well, but I can't animate limbs in 5 minutes of class time.
