Ms. Jones' School Counseling Website

Welcome!

I am Ms. Anna Jones, M.S., NCC, LPC-Associate (supervised by Jennifer Dougherty, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S), the Alcuin School Counselor. This website has various school counseling resources for both parents and students, and will be updated frequently with new resources. Feel free to click around to see if you find anything helpful! If you ever have questions or concerns, or if you'd like to schedule a meeting with me, please reach out to me at anna.jones@alcuinschool.org or (972) 664-4367. Students may also complete this Google form. If you are on campus, my office is on the second floor of the WLFA; please stop in and say hello!

Counseling at Alcuin

As noted in the handbook, all students at Alcuin have equal access to to meet with me, the school counselor. This year, I will work with the entire Student Support Team to ensure students are as successful as possible. This team includes Dr. Bill Barfoot, Director of Student Support, Mrs. Stevie Piehl, US/MS Learning Specialist, and Ms. Amanda Pethick, LS Student Support Specialist. I will generally offer individual and small group counseling to Middle and Upper School students. Students may self-refer for counseling or can be referred by their teacher or parent. Additionally, I will participate in the Middle and Upper School advisory programs, the FLEX Friday program for Upper Schoolers, and I will offer other mental health programming.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is essential in forming trust and safety in the counseling relationship. It allows students to be honest in their communication with me. Therefore, conversations with students are confidential except in certain instances. I am legally and ethically obligated to break confidentiality in cases of serious and foreseeable harm to students themselves or others. In addition, because I will be working with minor students, parents, teachers, or other adults may sometimes be involved in the counseling process as appropriate. I always discuss confidentiality and informed consent with students during sessions, so they are aware of the limits of confidentiality and know what to expect from counseling. For more information on school counselors' ethics, you can find the American School Counselor Association Ethical Standards for School Counselors here.
