The mission of the Student Government Association is to serve as advocates to the student body and be liaisons between them, the administration, faculty, and staff.
We challenge ourselves to always strive for excellence in order to form a more united student body in the following ways:
To encourage and create student enthusiasm in school activities
Building school spirit and pride in our community
Acknowledging and promoting all levels of student involvement is equally important
To be a contributing voice in our school
To be a visible and approachable outlet for the students
To unite the student body for a common purpose of equality, fairness, and respect
Fostering communication between the students, staff, and administration
History
Founded in the school year 2017-2018. This was an organizational year, with a small group of students meeting weekly during lunch to brainstorm the scope, purpose, and mission of the organization.
By December, they had written a constitution and began planning the first activities, including a spring school-wide election for the first elected officers, to be installed for the 2018-1019 school year. A primary responsibility of the SGA would be to plan and host the first annual Salem Tech Spirit Week and Homecoming Dance in the fall of 2018. Planning began in earnest during the 2nd Semester.
The election was extremely competitive and successful. Officers were installed at the end of May 2018. Students continued planning throughout the summer for Homecoming, as well as for welcoming activities for the incoming freshman class. A highlight of the summer was the SGA participation in the Freshman Orientation day in August 2018.
2018-2019 was the first year with an elected slate of officers. It was a resounding success. The highlight of the year, among many accomplishments, was the successful establishment of the annual Spirit Week and Homecoming Dance. The theme of the first annual celebration was "Once Upon a Time..."
The SGA members celebrated a successful first year by attending the State Awards Ceremony and fun day at Six Flags in May 2019. New officers were installed at the end of May for the 2019-2020 school year.
2019-2020 started off like any other. SGA successfully welcomed the new freshmen again and hosted an even more successful Spirit Week and Homecoming celebration. Then, the unprecedented pandemic took over the school year. SGA refused to let down the student body and continued to come up with creative ways to connect with and lift the spirits of their classmates. Virtual Spirit weeks, photo outreaches, and many other efforts were implemented to keep unity and spirit among the Chargers community.
As we continue in 2022-2023 after the past few challenging years, SGA members strive for creative and unique ways to serve and lift up their school community.
The official SGA logo was created and designed by Jayden Robinson in 2021.
Who We Are
You do not require any prior experience to become an SGA officer. In order to become an officer, individuals must fill out an application at the beginning of the school year and undergo an interview. The application has leadership questions and asks informational questions about you. The interview is composed of a randomized set of SCVTS teachers. The number of interviewers may vary. Below are pictures of officers for your convenience. We hope the information below can help you easily find members or advisors if you need to speak with them.
