Did you know that there is an Afghan refugee community in Manchester, NH?
Most of these families fled Afghanistan in 2021 when the U.S. withdrew its troops and the Taliban took control of the country. Those who worked with the U.S. Army faced serious danger from the Taliban. Nearly four years later, these families have shown remarkable resilience. They have obtained driver’s licenses, found jobs and apartments, enrolled their children in school, and many have learned English. However, many challenges remain, particularly in making ends meet. A degree or a high-paying career in Afghanistan does not easily translate to job opportunities in America, so their options are quite limited. All of these families are legal residents, and many have obtained their green cards. This month, we are collecting food staples to help alleviate the rising cost of groceries for these families. Due to the government shutdown and SNAP benefits on hold, these families are not getting the food they need, which is where you come in!
