About Myself and the Company.
My name is Joe Carslake, and I founded J.C. Designs in January 2024, which was built as part of a 3rd unit project for my BTEC "Furniture Design" diploma course. The company acts as a portfolio, whereby I wanted to show all of my work for the past 2-3 years; (Hence the "Est. 2021" on the logo). I am 18 years of age, and have been practicing and enhancing my design skills for the past 7-8 years, I learnt most of my skills from Rawlins Academy, whereby I studied design from middle school, GCSE's and A-levels (a combined 6 years of "Product Design"), now including my second year of a diploma in "Furniture Design and Making". I plan on attending university next year to study Interior Design (BA Hons). Design has definitely been the subject I've loved the most, and is my area of expertise of which I hope to pursue into a career.

I take pride in my refinement of components. As shown in the image above, all pieces are marked, cut, planed and sanded into shape to give an identical perfect finish. I take pride in my quality, and when my hand crafted products resemble that hard work, it definitely pays off!
I made sure I double checked my measurement every time before cutting!

Within my craft, I make sure my work has a focus on quality and accentuates good craftsmanship. I ensure that every component of every product has been checked and checked again, and any minor mistakes, I make sure to instantly correct them. Sadly, I'm a perfectionist! I've found this process to be somewhat of a learning curve, from when I started years ago, I've advanced my control of the tools and equipment, and now feel natural with every machine as well as the new workshop. And for me, that's a special thing!
Here's me doing some final touch-ups on my chair, a lot of sanding and varnish!
