ISAT U Lab School, affiliated with the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), is located in Burgos Street, Iloilo City, Philippines. It serves grades 7 to 10 and operates as a public school under the university's administration. The school aims to provide quality education while promoting research and development in various fields.Â

Academic support systemÂ
ISAT U Laboratory School has very adequate classroom facilities such as television, whiteboard, photocopy, printer and CCTV which can support learning. Apart from that, ISAT U Laboratory School also has an open hall which can be used for various school events such as art performances or student clubs. Â

Teaching systemÂ
The learning system in one of the classes that I observed at ISAT-U Laboratory School was to start learning with active discussion, then continue by connecting learning with daily life, then working on worksheets and ending with evaluation during learning. Learning at ISAT-U Laboratory School only lasts 60 minutes for one subject.
Teaching Methods of The TeacherÂ
ISAT - U Laboratory School expecially in the grade 9Â on chemistry subject uses a learning system that is based on open discussions related to the material being studied together with the students so that students are very active in learning. Furthermore, the teacher also provides worksheets at each meeting so that students understand more about the material being studied. Apart from that, teachers at ISAT - U Laboratory School also actively apply the use of technology in learning such as using power points, online mini online quizzes, online videos, and also using a group based learning system when doing practicums.
Learning materials used in learning using laptops, blackboards, smart TVs, and worksheets that are innovative with technology and interesting games such as clap and snap games using Power point media
Learning resources using the book Breaking Through Science Update Second Edition and learning guide with the K-12 curriculum. The technology used includes smart TVs, laptops and cellphones to deliver material.
The teacher uses assessment as learning after conducting discussions. Then, at the end of the semester, an assessment of learning will be carried out which includes all the material and chapters that have been studied previously.
ISAT U Laboratory School uses the K-12 curriculum with a junior high school level consisting of 4 years from grade 7 to grade 9. Meanwhile, science learning has been separated between chemistry, biology and physics so that each subject has its own subject teacher.
I made a teaching plan for 5 meetings related to organic chemistry material. The teaching plan contains learning targets, learning content (subject matter, content outline, science concept, science process skills, value focus, and teaching strategy), and instructional materials (references, teaching aids), and lesson development (parts of the lesson, teacher and student activities, and teacher's note/assessment).
Procedure of Teaching
Learning procedures are based on learning plans that have been created and approved by the supervising teacher. Learning activities consist of:
Preliminary activity: Teacher encourages one of the students to lead the prayer together. Then, give greetings, reminders, and check the attendance
Activity Proper: Teacher and student do a discussion related to the material which begins with providing motivation related to daily life. Next, carry out exercises by providing worksheets to improve students' understanding.
Post Activity: The teacher provides an evaluation regarding the worksheet given and the material studied that day.
Time management and organizing activities
The learning courses at ISAT-U Laboratory School last for 60 minutes. Here's the explanation:
1. Preliminary activity: Use 10 minutes before entering the main activity
2. activity proper: lasts 40 minutes and includes work on the worksheet as well as joint discussion regarding the material
3. Post activity: lasts for 10 minutes consisting of evaluation and closing of the lesson
The number of students for one class at ISAT-U Laboratory School consists of 46-48 students so that to organize the class it is necessary to focus the students' attention when the teacher gives an explanation. Next, carry out active discussions so that students don't get sleepy during learning. Then, give worksheets to groups so they can provide ideas easily during group discussions with their friends.
The situation in class is not always the same at every meeting, sometimes students are active but sometimes they are not. When students are not active, we can provide stimulus or rewards when students want to be more active in learning.
Purposes of practicum
My aim in joining the SEA TEACHER BY SEAMEO 2024 program is to improve my English skills and experience which might be useful in the future. Apart from that, based on this program I can also gain new relationships, especially international relations.
Procedures of practicumÂ
My preparation for doing teaching practicum lasted for 1 week, consisting of class observation, teaching assistant, practice demo teaching, and final demo teaching. Class observations and teaching assistants together with my supervising teacher "Ma'am Abba" lasted for 1 week. That week I also provided guidance regarding making lesson plans. Next, practice demo teaching and evaluation for 1 week. Next, do the final demo teaching.
Outcomes of practicumÂ
Based on practice demo teaching, I know how to make the class more active without making the children feel burdened with a lot of assignments. Furthermore, I also increased my confidence to teach in class while improving my communication skills with students.
The challenges of practicum
Challenge during practicum, namely in 2 offline meetings, sometimes students are bored with learning so only a few students are active. This is because class time is approaching noon so sometimes students are no longer too focused on learning so some strategies are needed to make them active again.
Overall impression
The overall impression is that teaching abroad, especially in the Philippines, is an impressive experience because we can easily communicate with students in English without burdening them because English in the Philippines is the second language of the general public there.
Suggestions for future improvement
I hope that this program can continue to run by collaborating with many countries in ASEAN so that the experience of students in ASEAN countries, especially prospective teacher students, can increase before plunging directly into the world of education by studying the education systems of their countries and other countries.
