How to get to Siena:
Airport:
The nearest airports to Siena are in Florence and Pisa. From Florence Airport, it is possible to reach the central train station (Santa Maria Novella) using the T2 tramway located directly outside the airport. Similarly, Pisa Airport offers an over-rail service (PisaMover) to take passengers directly to the central station (Pisa Centrale). From both stations, it is possible to continue your onward journey to Siena.
Trains:
Siena is mainly served by regional trains offered by Trenitalia, so you may have to change train in intermediate stations (Florence, Empoli or Chiusi).
Please note that Siena's central train station is located outside the historic city centre*.
Buses:
We suggest taking a look at Flixbus and Itabus websites, as they offer numerous connections with the city from all over Italy. Most of these buses arrive at the train station (Piazza Carlo Rosselli)*.
If you come from Florence, you may also choose the two different regional buses run by Autolinee Toscane (131 and 131R). In this case you will reach the bus hub in Piazza Antonio Gramsci (Siena), right in the city centre.
* From the train station, it is possible to reach the historic city center by public transport or by an escalator, which takes you up near Porta Camollia, from which you can walk straight to the city centre in a few minutes.
Car:
If you come by car, you can reach Siena from Florence via the RA3 (recommended exit is Siena Ovest), SS715 (recommended exit is Siena Est), or SS223 (recommended exit is Siena Sud).
While in Siena, you will not need your car to move around as everything can be reached by foot/bus. If you drive close to the centre, mind the ZTL signs which indicate the limited traffic area begins.
Parking:
You can park your car in paid parking lots close to the city centre, or free parking lots located around the city walls (from which you can reach the centre by bus).
Here you can find a map with indications about paid and free parking lots, bus stops and train station.
