In the design phase of our project to create an AI drone that does object detection, we are looking to build on the solid foundation established by the research phase. The research phase was a key part of the project as it allowed us to gather important information on the AI camera and other components we need. This phase will be important because it will translate the findings from the previous phase into a workable prototype. We focused on creating different sketches for ideas, having some final drawings, and creating a 3d model. This will be where we make our ideas and drawings come to life and test it later.
Top 3 sketches:
Sketch 1: Dart Tracking System
Sketch 2: Hot swappable drone
Sketch 3: Car Barrier system
We were considering three different ideas for what we wanted to build to solve the public safety concern for the police. They were a camera dart tracking system, a car barrier system, and a hot swappable drone. We determined the qualifications for each idea against multiple criteria: effectiveness, ethical righteousness, ease of integration to infrastructure, whether it benefits the police, restricted for police use, cost and durability. Taking each aspect carefully in account, the hot swappable drone turned out to be the best idea with 18 points, compared to the 12 and 14 for the dart tracking system and car barrier system, respectively. However, we don't plan to go exactly in the same direction as the sketch of the hot swappable drone. There will be the required hardware (ESC, flight controller, motors) along with a few components (AI detection, speaker, LED). Our main focus will be object detection using AI as it will be the most beneficial and efficient to solve the problem of public safety. The usage of the speaker and LED in addition to the AI camera would be a plus, but only pursued if there's enough time to add those on.
