The Humberside Huskies Robotics Team #9262 is part of a larger organization called F.I.R.S.T. Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get.
Students receive valuable experience for their resumes, attend competitions, and access to hundreds of scholarships provided by FIRST. In addition, it is proven that FIRST students are 4× as likely to pursue a career in engineering and 2× as likely to pursue a career in science and technology compared to other students who did not participate in the FIRST curriculum.
Since 1892, Humberside has fostered the development of many bright minds who have made an impact on Canadian society and local communities. The Humberside Robotics Team is composed of students from various multi-racial and multi-ethnic backgrounds who have a keen interest in STEM-related fields. We can bring a life-changing experience and spark interest in STEM fields for Humberside students that might otherwise not pursue STEM. We hope to inspire the STEM leaders of the future and show them that nothing is impossible.
