A Summary on A Brightness Long Ago ✨
The book, “A Brightness Long Ago”, is a historical fantasy book about Guadanio Cerra, who is reminiscing about his life and all the different people and events that made him who he was. Coming from an average family, he was destined to live a normal life, but when his father mentioned him to the Council of Twelve, he got into Guarino’s prestigious school. At the school, Guarino learns many different subjects, such as philosophy, and horse riding. After graduating, he went to work as a servant to the ruler of Mylasia, Uberto, otherwise known as “the Beast," a cruel and sadistic man. Guadanio's life really meets its turning point when a girl, Adria Ripoli, who comes from a noble lineage, but wants to be her own person, free from the societal standards placed on her from the circumstances of her birth, comes in and assassinates Uberto. The story then follows Guadanio’s journey on what he does after this life changing event, through the perspective of many different characters from different backgrounds: A rich royal who is an incompetent leader, two rivaling mercenaries whose conflict is based off a lie, a famous artist, a healer who can see the dead, and more. The story has a huge, complex world with many different countries, religions, and societal aspects, which the plot shows off well.
What are you waiting for? Come read a fascinating tale of love and loss, of nostalgia and memory, of unique characteristics that blend together into something so much greater than its parts.
The wild and unpredictable events within the book caused a lot of twists and different endings for the characters. Adria sadly dies due to an attempted rebellion started by power-hungry families. Jelena, the healer, goes on to have an on and off relationship with a rich and incompetent leader, who actually becomes quite a competent man, and they settle down in a quiet town together. The rivalry between the two mercenaries end, as one of them dies, revealing how their rivalry was based off a complete lie. The fall of a major city, Saratium, a beacon of faith for most of the people in Batiara, devastated most people. Most of the other characters have peaceful endings that were given little attention once the part of their time being connected to Guadanio had ended.
