At South Kingstown High School, each and every student has their own unique and personal style. But across all of these looks, there are similar trends and fads that match other students, as well as those of celebrities and girls seen featured on various social media platforms. From the clothes and jewelry, to other accessories and even hairstyles, current fashion at SK can be hard to stay on top of. That being said, here are some of the most popular looks.

Bottoms

Overall girls’ fashion at South Kingstown follows a pretty similar baseline. High waistlines and “mom jeans” are very popular styles for pants and shorts. Light wash and black jeans are the most common, but classic denim washes also make appearances around the school. Despite the opinions of many parents, the more rips the better. Levi's are a beloved brand for all types of denim.

For the girls going for a more relaxed fit, leggings are a simple but very appropriate choice. Lots of SK shop for their leggings at Lululemon. According to Kelsey Stiegmen, a Senior Style Editor at Seventeen Magazine, the leggings are tailor made “to the value of fit, functionality, premium materials and detail, craftsmanship and technology.”

More inexpensive leggings can be found in stores around town or even at the mall. One alternative store is Leggings World at the Warwick Mall. Girls at SK have just recently found the store, which is full of high-waisted, soft, and colorful leggings for just a fraction of the price of a pair at Lulu’s. When it comes to leggings, don't be afraid of color! Girls often pair a colored pair of leggings with a basic top for a comfortable, yet cute outfit for school.

For the girls who want to wear an even more comfortable outfit, sweatpants are a go-to. In the winter, many girls wear sweatpants that have more of a jogger fit and are also high-wasted. These will keep you cozy but still fashionable. These sweatpants often come from girls’ sports teams at the high school, stores around town, and a variety of online websites. Some of the most popular sweatpants come from Brandy Melville. These sweatpants are also on the more expensive side but genuinely have the best cozy feeling with the jogger look. Champion, Nike, and Adidas sell similar jogger-style pants that are good quality basics and are essential in any wardrobe.

For girls who want a dressier look, mini skirts are in high demand at SK. Flowy skirts are not as common, but pencil skirts are seen daily at the school. Some of the tighter, shorter skirts from Brandy Melville are popular, however, they are one-size fits all and can also be expensive. The high-waisted trend also applies to skirts, and a slit in the side of the skirt is also very trendy.

Tops

Tops at SK have a large range that includes short sleeves, long sleeves, tank tops, and tube tops. From tight to baggy, solid-colored to striped, and even vintage-printed tops are frequently seen at the high school. This retro look is very in-style right now and, in fact, there is a new trend that entails making your own customized t-shirt at home by ironing on a printed, colored image onto a t-shirt. There have been many girls at SK who partake in this new trend. In similar fashion with making your own retro shirts, many people look for vintage clothing right from the source - thrift stores! Many girls use these second-hand clothing stores to achieve a classic look without spending a lot of money. Savers, Perennials Consignment, Plato's Closet and One More Time are all great local spots where you can find some hidden gems!

Basics

Girls love basic white and black tops in both long and short sleeve styles. These can be found at any clothing store from Macy’s to Urban Outfitters.

Cropped

Tight, cropped t-shirts and tank tops are most popular from Pacsun, Forever 21, H&M, Hollister, Garage and American Eagle.

Baggy

A lot of vintage clothes that are seen worn around the school actually do come straight from the closets of many parents. While some students like to thrift, others vintage tops can be found at high-fashion stores such as Urban Outfitters.

Shoes

Fashionable sneakers from brands such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, New Balance and Puma are very common. Sneakers are the perfect accessory to any outfit, from a t-shirt and jeans, to a fancy dress.

Mostly all girls at SK have their most trusted pair of plain white or black shoes that they can pair with any outfit. Typically these come from Vans, Nike, Fila, Converse or Doc Marten's. Sandals and flip flops are not as common around the school, even in the spring and summer seasons.

Right now, animal prints are very "in" at South Kingstown High School. Leopard prints can be found on all different types of clothes and accessories. Other prints such as cheetah and snakeskin can also be seen throughout. This animal-print trend has definitely returned, and it makes any outfit more fun. Plaid and camouflage can also be seen on various pieces of clothing.

Layered necklaces are very popular, as well as a cute pair of simple studs or dangled earrings. A lot of girls tend to wear earrings with stars, hearts, or butterflies.

You can't forget about the hoops! Hoops are an essential pair of earrings and very common at SK.

Hair

Hairstyles are another important part of SK trends. Natural hair looks are very common, considering that a lot of girls just roll out of bed in the morning and rush to school with no time to style their hair. If anything, many will straighten or lightly curl their hair. Ponytails and messy buns are also popular for those who are running out of their door in the morning.
